Marguerite d’Youville

Marguerite Dufrost de Lajemmerais was born in Varennes (Québec) in 1701. She married François Youville de la Découverte and, then after she was widowed, she founded the Order of Sisters of Charity of Montréal, also called the “Grey Nuns”, in 1737. In consideration of her excellent life of dediccation and compassion toward her human brothers and sisters, she was canonized in 1990 by Pope John Paul II. She was buried in the Basilique Saint-Anne, in Varennes, where a chapel is dedicated to her.
