PALM BRAIDING WORKSHOP
Sunday, April 9, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
On April 9, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Maison Saint-Gabriel invites you to spend Palm Sunday in the house with the King’s Wards and take part in a palm braiding workshop, with specialist Nathalie Levasseur. Come and learn the art of braiding palms and use your creativity to make your own ornaments.
The Palm Sunday festival, which is renowned for the beauty of the boxwood tree branches braided into veritable works of art, can trace its roots back to two distinct religious events, celebrated on the Sunday before Easter. This solemn Christian event recalls Christ’s passion and His death on the cross, as well as Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem riding on the back of a donkey on a palm-strewn road. Since we have no palms here, Christians now consider the bright green boxwood branches a sign of vitality and attribute to them the power to chase bad influences from their homes.
Today, regardless of the beliefs attached to them, products made from braided palms are still magnificent to look at and pleasant to hold. Don’t miss this opportunity to take part in this traditional workshop with the entire Maison Saint-Gabriel team!
Maison Saint-Gabriel is located at 2146 Place Dublin, in Point St. Charles, near Marguerite-Bourgeoys Park (Wellington St.), less than five minutes by car from Vieux-Montréal and near the Charlevoix metro station (Bus 57 East).
