Religious stamps | Lay stamps

A stamp is an ink print made on a soft media using a template, namely an image printed on paper. With this technique, numerous copies of images could be printed and distributed.

Artists quickly grasped the advantages of this major means of expression and used it to make distinct works of art. Stamps stand out from paintings and drawings because they are printed and several copies can exist. Since the main material used is paper, stamps are included in the graphic arts.

Often, a stamp is synonymous with an engraving since a plate of wood or metal is engraved to make the print template. However, the word stamp is more generic than engraving since it also it also includes images printed by contact, without an actual engraving. The stamps in our collection can be classified as religious or lay.
