In New France and later, the ex-voto became very popular. This is a painting or an object of some type that was hung in a church or a site that is venerated following a vow or in memory of a grace that has been granted. It includes three moments: that of the event, which was either experienced or feared, that of the appeal to an intercessor and, finally, that of the fulfilment of a vow. Basically, the ex-voto serves to bear testimony. It includes evidence, prayer and, above all, thanksgiving for the “miracle” obtained.
